A native of Riga, Pyotr Vail, graduated from Moscow Printing Institute, has worked as a longshoreman, working at the cemetery, a fireman and a journalist.In 1977 he emigrated to America and since then along with his co-author Alexander Genis has turned for the rest of the ocean of intelligent readers a guide to the world of uncensored Russian literature.
The current book by Pyotr Vail "Word on the Road" - the latter publication, it went exactly a year after his death. The book "Word on the Road" includes travel sketches and essays published in different years, in periodicals, as well as excerpts from the interview, also on the theme of travel.
This book can be read in different ways: as a guide and as a collection of art and literary essays, and as an autobiographical prose. The collection also includes three chapters of an unfinished book "Paintings of Italy", the heroes of whom became painters Giotto, Simone Martini and Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti.
